8:30-10:00am. Session 1 (1.5 CEU)
Complementary Clinical Programming: New Approaches for R.T.
George Patrick, Ph.D., CTRS

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:

· Explain the features of complementary and alternative therapies that make them a good fit for R.T. programming.
· Choose a few among many programs that might fit best in their own facility.
· Understand the responsibility for developing adequate training and credentialling standards in the above listed program.

Research in Recreation Therapy

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:

· Identify three different research methods.
· Identify the basic steps in the research process.
· Identify methods of applying research to the clinical setting.

"Puppets - a - Poppin"
Alice Powers, Very Special Arts of Virginia-Loudoun County Special Recreation Program

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:

· Learn how to implement puppet theatre programs.
· Learn the benefits of the theater for their consumers and the community, and more about Very Special Arts
· Understand promoting the creative power of people with disabilities.

2:45-4:15pm. Session 4 (1.5 CEU)
Mitigating Boredom during the Recovery Process of those with Alcohol Dependence.
Michael Duquette, MRPA, CTRS

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

· Gain knowledge of the psychosocial impact of alcohol abuse and dependence.
· Increase an understanding of the Free Time Boredom Measurement and the Perceived Freedom in Leisure Scale and their potential use in substance abuse.
· Understand the methodology and results of a study conducted at NIH among those with alcohol dependence.
